The Banarasi Silks Story
The Banarasi silk market is highly unorganised and fragmented. The market is full of cheap knock-offs made in large-scale production units. Our founder Swati Agrawal realised this and decided to build a business venture that enables everyone to buy genuine, handcrafted Banarasi sarees and silk products made in the city of Banaras.
Swati is supported by her dad's rich 30+ years of experience in the Banaras silk industry, relationships with weavers and deep knowledge of the weaves and weaving techniques of Banaras.
Our business has at its core the weavers of the city of Banaras. As each saree gets delicately handcrafted by the weavers of Banaras, we strive to showcase it to the world and bring it to customers wanting to experience the grandeur of a true Banarasi saree.
Meet the founder
Swati Agrawal
An alumna of Banaras Hindu University and XLRI Jamshedpur, Swati spent 20+ years in fintech and investment banking in India and the US before setting up her own business venture Banarasi Silks.
While going through school and undergrad in Banaras, she experienced Banarasi sarees closely through her dad's business. Back then, she would don sarees at important festivals such as Raksha Bandhan and also for her school saree day functions! Luxurious kurtas in Banarasi organza used to be her go-to style for Diwali parties. Meeting weavers at her dad's office was a regular occurrence. With her business venture, Swati wants India and the world to experience the same authenticity, luxury and grandeur of Banarasi sarees that she did during her school and college days. Her venture Banarasi Silks showcases stunning saree and dupatta collections for weddings, office ethnic days, office parties, office meetings and Diwali parties. All products of Banarasi Silks come with an authenticity label of Made in Banaras,
